There are 32 Members of the logistics driving team, headed up by Peter Shannon, Transport Solutions Manager. We have teams that work out of each of our acute sites (William Harvey, Kent and Canterbury and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother hospitals). They also cover Royal Victoria and Buckland hospitals.

Their roles include:

• Team leaders
• Sample collection drivers
• Relief drivers
• Hopper bus and inter-hospital routes
• Mail run
• Medicine and pharmacy
• Pan-Kent routes

We asked Members of the team to tell us about a bit about working in this area of the business:

Peter Shannon:

What is the most rewarding thing about working in your area of the organisation? “The most rewarding thing about our service is that we know when we do our job daily it is making a difference to someone whether it is a collected blood sample, delivery of nuclear meds or getting someone to work on time with the hopper buses.”

What is the biggest challenge in your area of work? “Keeping to our schedules with all of the upheaval over Brexit and the pandemic, with all the restrictions put in place meant we had to react daily to any issues to ensure collection continuity.”

What would you like people to know about your area of the organisation? “Most people do not know we exist as a department it would be nice for my teams to know that people are aware of them and the job that they have done and continue to do.”

Marcus Bailey, Ancillary Driver:

What do you like most about working for 2gether? “Job satisfaction in taking meds to people who need it, working within a good team and now we have a Team Leader to turn to with any problems or help which has been very positive.”

What is your biggest challenge at work? “Keeping to scheduled times, as the medicines I primarily deliver have time restraints any delay with traffic or production can have a real impact.”

What is your biggest challenge at work? “Making sure everyone has a positive attitude and making sure that sample collections are made on time.”
